Crime Severity Index

This indicator tracks the amount, severity and impact of crime in Edmonton using the Crime Severity Index (CSI). Changes to this indicator give us a better understanding of crime severity in municipalities. 

More serious crimes are assigned higher weights, and less serious offences are assigned lower weights. As a result, more serious offences have a greater impact on changes in the index.

The crime severity index for Edmonton rose slightly from 112.5 in 2022 to 113.3 in 2023.

The data is based on the Uniform Crime Reporting Survey reported by Statistics Canada.
